We tend to think of health as not being sick. Doing enough to be able to walk the dog, run for the bus or bend down to tie up a shoe lace. Many of us spending time between sick not sick, rather than well, not well!
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
To strive for wellness rather than sickness requires that we dig a little deeper.
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
Varying authors quote six or seven areas of wellness, all of which if in balance produce ultimate health. That’s the ideal and certainly something to aim for even if at the outset, it appears a little unrealistic.
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
A bit like juggling with seven balls. Some of us can master three, but seven that takes work and practice, bearing in mind that the world record is currently eleven. But I digress, back to health.
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
When we evaluate our own health, these are the categories that need to be reviewed, bearing in mind that an imbalance in one component impacts total wellness.

𝟏. π‘·π’‰π’šπ’”π’Šπ’„π’‚π’ – This is the body. External and internal. It runs on air, water and food. To keep it healthy it requires a sufficiency of each. To this I add structural integrity. In my career I have spent much of my time treating imbalances in the head and neck that have caused an imbalance in both soma and psyche. So oral health, a balanced bite plays an important role in overall wellness.

𝟐. π‘¬π’Žπ’π’•π’Šπ’π’π’‚π’ – Heart, gut, brain axis. These are the deeper issues of life. Not caught up in the intellect, it is the wider expressions of emotion generated not only from the mind but also from the heart and the gut.

πŸ‘. 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 – This is where the brain and heart collide. The place where our left and right brain argue. Where logic attempts to overpower gut feeling and issues of the heart. Where we make a decision to walk in lack or prosperity, health or sickness, happy or sad. While the last two appear to be emotions, which they are, they are also a decision β€” The intellect should be encouraged to engage in stimulating creative and mental activities and develop knowledge and skills. It is where your purpose which comes from the desires of your heart can be expressed and put into action. (It has also been described as the devils playground!)

πŸ•. π‘Άπ’„π’„π’–π’‘π’‚π’•π’Šπ’π’π’‚π’ – Most of us spend more time at work than anywhere else. Choosing a working environment and an occupation that is satisfying is essential. Falling into a job rather than finding one that aligns with our purpose or calling affects our overall wellness as it is very difficult to maintain a positive outlook on life if we are unhappy in our occupation.
